Romanian filmmaker, screenwriter, and actor Mircea Daneliuc entered his country’s film industry with a role in Cursa/The Long Drive (1975). Before graduating from Bucharest’s Institute of Theater and Film Art in 1972, Daneliuc had earned a degree in French philology at Bucharest University and spent a year as a teacher. Daneliuc served as an assistant director on two films by Mircea Dragan. In the late ’70s, Daneliuc left the film industry to become a stage director; he would only sporadically return to films through the ’80s and ’90s. —allmovieguide
4 stars for the film and another one for the mustache. "Nelu becomes increasingly obsessed with this young woman and her world, and his search for understanding forces him to question his own past and the role of the media in shoring up political power." HA!
the kind of movie that made me reject romanian film as a teen. moral ugliness, ugly characters in ugly situations. unlike Dan Piţa in Paso Doble, this movie tries to save nothing, although there are moments in the second half that try to humanize and sweeten the pill in a way. it`s almost creepy in its veracity. just as unbearably sordid and cynical as Why are the bells ringing, Mitica? but less hysterical and muddy.
