Synopsis

Mira Sorvino won an Oscar for her performance as a bubbleheaded hooker and porn star who happens to be the mother of a bright young boy adopted by a Manhattan couple (Woody Allen and Helena Bonham Carter). The story finds Allen’s sportswriter character becoming curious about the identity of his son’s biological mom, and he strikes up a relationship with her without revealing why. This 27th feature written and directed by Allen is a nice combination of smart comedy and some of the wackier energy of his earliest movies. —Tom Keogh

With 1966’s What’s Up, Tiger Lily?, a puckish re-tooling of a Japanese spy thriller complete with his own story line and dubbed English dialogue, he made his directorial debut. In 1969 Allen directed two short films for a CBS television special… read more

The idea for the chorus was great. I also enjoyed the many recognizable faces in the supporting cast, like Paul Giamatti as the guy with the info on film extras.

Woody Allen's most overlooked film, the dialogue is brilliant from start to finish!
