es obsceno...con la "S" ...aprender, aprender
A slightly above-average biopic with an excellent leading performance from reliable Penn, along with a hell of a supporting cast. Not a fan of the reciting memoirs into a tape recorder choice, narratively speaking. But this one still works on me emotionally despite a couple of minor quibbles. GRADE: B+
A moving, inspiring and heart-warming biopic. There is no useless pathos or kitsch. Everything feels real and human, with the use of documentary features making it easy to dive into the 70s and witness the political struggles. Van Sant pays a beautiful tribute to Milk’s life and work and manages -despite the tragic and sad ending- to spread hope for the future. Sean Penn’s performance is stellar. One of his best.
Dan White: Society can’t exist without the family. Harvey Milk: We’re not against that. Dan White: Can two men reproduce? Harvey Milk: No, but God knows we keep trying.
:D amo a Sean Penn!
For my money it skips over one major event way to briskly but that aside it's an intelligent and moving insight into not just one man's life but an entire generational movement with enough wit and humor left to spare.
The theme of homosexuality, as Beneexy says, it's a important theme of the movie in the States because in Spain fortunately gays and lesbians can get married and have children. I think many countries must leave homosexual collective do the same.
One of the best movies of 2008. All the actors are fantastic in this movie, and the screenplay too. Sean Penn is impresionant, I think he deserves the Oscar.
Rather muted account of Milk's short but momentous political career. It feels more like mainstream cinema pushing its boundaries half an inch or so, than a more radical queer-politico reading which is hiding in there somewhere. As it is, an unremarkable account of little-man-made-big. The central performance though, is suitably sensitive.
This film gave such a poor portrayal of the milestone that is Harvey Milk. He did quite a bit to help change politics around the world, not just in San Francisco or the United States. I was repulsed when I saw this movie and how it made him out to be just "another gay man" rather than the elite political figure he was. to quote my good friend who is gay: "I liked Philadelphia better. This was like a gay porno."
Maybe the best political films made, and maybe also the most important. Incredible acting by Sean Penn also.
I really was blown away by Sean Penn's acting performance in this movie, I think he is one of the greatest actors of our time.
Like many good movies, I liked it a lot more the second time I watched it.
Standard biopic filmmaking, tipped over the edge by a fascinating subject and a truly brilliant performance from Sean Penn.
Cried twice. This is an incredible amalgamation of all the experimental work Van Sant has occupied himself with over the years. So many techniques are used to sell the heroic story of Harvey Milk and every single technique is perfectly executed. Tremendous performance from Sean Penn as well as Josh Brolin. Sensitively tackled and beautifully directed.
Gus Van Sant is definitely one of my favorite directors. The film was wonderful and the acting was splendid. I especially loved seeing those Red Model Management male models in the film - especially Boyd Holbrook!
Sean Penn delivers a stunning performance, and overall a great biopic; that is to say better than W.
James Franco and Sean Penn kiss, and kiss, and kiss. I may have liked Paranoid Park better, maybe not though. Gus Van Sant is always an interesting, solid filmmaker. I even liked, Even Cowgirls Get The Blues.
