In the darkroom, 50 unexposed film strips were laid across a surface, upon which a frame of La sortie des ouvriers de l’usine Lumière was projected. The stringing together of the individual developed sections make up the new film, which reads the original frame like a page from a musical score: within the strips from top to bottom and sequentially from left to right.

Tscherkassky opère à niveau microscopique. Son voyage à travers l'épiderme du film fondateur, "La sortie des usines Lumière", donne une succession irrégulière et dynamique de noirs et de blancs fluctuants. Kubelka et ses flicker films ne sont pas loin. La sortie dont prend acte le film est celle des ouvriers de la lumière, c'est-à-dire, en cinéma, de l'ombre que permet d'esquisser en creux la chimie photographique.
