Okay, I'll give one star back. It's a great movie, just loses steam...strangely enough, that seems to be a plotted downshift in momentum.
Spielberg's best film. A mature, intelligent Hitchcockian thriller that manages to be emotional and humanistic without bouts of the director's usual cloying sentimentality.
Munich is an outstanding achievement, and shows Spielberg at his most intimate.
A look back at an underrated masterpiece http://romancinema.wordpress.com/2011/12/30/war-horse/
Works well as a companion piece to War of the Worlds. WotW plays on the 9/11 terrorist attacks. Munich plays on how we respond to those attacks.
I just re-watched this film (I'm looking at the credits role right now) for probably the the fifth time, and even after so many viewings, it is still just as powerful as the first time I saw it. This is one of the best films I have ever seen and I consider it to be one of the best films ever made; easily Spielberg's most underrated. An amazing and dramatic political thriller-drama. I cannot wait to see it again!
Pieces of this movie work extremely well- some of the best examples of dramatic irony & hidden exposition you'll see. At a whopping two hours and forty-two minutes, Munich's revenge slides into drudgery. The acceleration that brings an enormous energy & expectation to the first act slows into a less than rewarding final bow- even for a "depressing" film. Five stars for the flash, minus two for pacing & preaching.

By the end of the film, both sides are the same, caught in an infinite loop of murder and destruction. Spielberg doesn't take any sides, he just sits down and watches the chaos.
Too much melodrama ad political bullshit gets in the way of beautiful cinematography and good acting. I get your heavy handed message Spielberg, but how about you stand out of the way ad let your message come through instead of being forced down my throat. On the other hand I'm not sure eve Spielberg knew what he was saying, maybe that's why he needed to be so heavy handed...
Absolutely amazing, one of Spielberg's finest film. Incredibly misunderstood and underrated. It's really a powerful, intense, suspenseful bit of intrigue. The best film of 2005.
I watched this, but I do not remember very well of my opinion about the film. I do recall some sort of amazement about the complexity of the script/action... Anyway, I was too young and naive at the time, so I guess I have to re-watch this movie in order to rate it properly.
People get too wrapped up in the politics of this film and criticize it as biased. But that wasn't Spielberg's intent at all. This movie is about the drama. Spielberg doesn't pick sides here, he presents the story and tries to inspire emotion. This is one of his most touching and suspenseful films! A masterpiece.
Ofen dismissed as overly preachy, Munich is what I've always known Spielberg was capable of, but never really tried before. It's nice to see a movie where he doesn't feel the need to tie things up so neatly in the end. Instead what Munich offers is messy, much like life. Solid performances from the cast and an engrossing and deeply personal story make Munich a standout film.
Intense and heartwrenching, Steven Spielberg once again delivers a fantastic piece of cinema.
Poses relevant questions about government response to terrorism (or revenge), and depicts it as it is, ugly and traumatic. This film gets extra points for not going overboard with the score, and for the lack of a silly happy ending, both unfortunately being all too common in Spielberg's body of work. I also appreciated the unrestrained, realistic take on the violence, which never made it something to enjoy or be entertained by. Kaminski's cinematography is fantastic. Very underrated film!
This film is sublimely crafted by Spielberg. I'd say it's easily one of his best films. Janujsz Kaminski did, in my opinion, some of his best work as DP, we see career best performances from Eric Bana & Daniel Craig and film is so suspenseful, so entertaining and so well written. I have no problem calling it one of my favourite films.
Emotionally and philosophically ambitious. While it might not provide the greatest argument it accurately poses the questions of Jewish identity and suggests rather than answers. The last panning shot of the film snuck up and sucker punched me.
Spielberg goes into unusually grim territory. A bold and tense thriller with fine performances and great dialectical writing. Too bad it stretches trying to touch all the cords and finding meaning to all the bloodbath the jewish and palestinian have been in.
