Synopsis

Midshipman Roger Byam joins Captain Bligh and Fletcher Christian aboard the HMS Bounty for a voyage to Tahiti. Bligh proves to be a brutal tyrant and, after six pleasant months on Tahiti, Christian leads the crew to mutiny on the homeward voyage. Even though Byam takes no part in the mutiny, he must defend himself against charges that he supported Christian. —IMDb

Frank Lloyd (2 February 1886, Glasgow, UK – 10 August 1960, Santa Monica, California, United States) was a film director, scriptwriter and producer. Lloyd was among the founders of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, and its president between 1934 and 1935.

Frank Lloyd was Scotland’s first Academy Award winner and is unique in film history having received three Oscar nominations in 1929 for his work on a silent film (The Divine Lady), a part-talkie (Weary River) and a full talkie (Drag). He won for The Divine Lady. He was nominated and won again in 1933 for his adaptation of Noel Coward’s Cavalcade and received a further Best Director nomination in 1935 for perhaps his most successful film, Mutiny on the Bounty. —wikipedia

Gable without the mustache is still a badass. And they cut it off for historical realism....nice, they forgot to do that for the rest of the movie.

Laughton is fantastic - I gave the film 4 stars for him alone. Clark Gable is laughably bad as an English sailor.

A classic sea-faring blockbuster with two great lead performances, it's a shame Gable was such an asshole

An early Hollywood blockbuser and swashbuckler epic and it shows. Some of the direction is still a bit clunky but sparkling with that divine innocence and sheer passion for filmmaking that evens out…  read review
