Two friends from New York are accused of murder while on a cross-country trip through Alabama. Broke and needing a lawyer, they hire one of their cousins, Vinny, to handle their case. What they don’t know, though, is that Vinny has only been a lawyer for a few weeks. What ensues is a hilarious comedy about a tough guy from Brooklyn who gets more than he expects, from the trial process to the judge and locals, to the accomodations, all the while with his non-stop talking fiancee in tow (played by Marisa Tomei, who earned a Best Supporting Actress Oscar for her role). The laughs just keep on coming as the “fish out of water” tries to survive in the South while handling his 1st murder trial! –IMDB
Brilliant film. Laughed all the way through.. recommended to anyone, but especially Law Students. Inspiring story of a "Lawyer" on a murder trial, who makes things up as he goes along, but somehow manages to turn things around...
After watching some seriously heavy shit in The Wrestler and Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, it's a nice change of pace to watch this hilarious, highly enjoyable courtroom comedy. Joe Pesci and Marisa Tomei are more than perfectly cast (she won an Oscar for it) as the titular Vinny and his argumentative fiancé Mona Lisa, and even Karate Kid Ralph Macchio shows up. All in all, a smart, funny, very fun film.
