A stranger creates upheaval upon his arrival in a small town on the Isle of Man in this adaptation of Knut Hamsun’s existential novel. Set in 1891, the tale chronicles the stay of wealthy traveler Johan Nagel (Rutger Hauer) in the coastal village. Immediately making an impact by befriending a local dwarf, Nagel soon finds himself torn by his attraction to two women: the luscious Dany (Sylvia Kristel) and the innocent Martha (Rita Tushingham).
