Naked Lunch 1991 David Cronenberg’s free riff as much on William S. Burroughs as on his novel of which I remember absolutely nothing nor am I familiar with the author’s life, but that seems to be the consensus of the reviews I have read. Having seen the remarkable Video Drome I can say that much of the same type of hallucinatory images are to be found in this film but without the sinister implications, and in a way prescience, of Video Drome . This film has an excellent score of somewhat hysterical jazz solos while the studio scenes of Tangier, while clearly fake, compliment the unreality of the script.
Bill Lee (Peter Weller) and Joan Frost/Lee (Judy Davis) share an interesting moment.

I’m still trying to figure out what the FUCK did I just watch? All I remember is fuckin typewriters, bugs, some fag shit, weird ass aliens!
Seriously how can I describe into words what kind of movie this is about. You have to experience it for yourself. I honestly am going to rewatch it with the Cronenberg Audio Commentary (Criterion Collection) to understand more of what I just witnessed.
Weird Conspiracy Related Shit in Naked Lunch:
-Reptillian Aliens asking humans to join the CIA?!?! Come on that’s just TOO much of a coincidence that’s not PARANOIA
But honestly I laughed when the talking anus of the bug began to speak. Cronenberg’s visual style is definitely something that is unique, surreal, sexually perverted, and just fucked up.
I give it an 8.5 out of 10 because of the sheer SURREALISM and weird IMAGERY that I witnessed. It disturbed me and made me uncomfortable.
I can’t believe Bart Simpson watched this movie when he was 10 years old. If I watched this shit when I was 10 most definitely would be fuckin TRAUMATIZED by bugs/typewriters/exterminators for the rest of my life!!
