Really wasn't on board with the film until over halfway through, found it downright painful and unpleasant until later on when it was more bearable, and even fun at a point. But too much pain for too little a reward. Could see why some might dig it though.
When I first saw this i was a teenager and only interested in the controversy and cool. Thought to watch it again with new eyes and a new awareness and it's so good find to find a thorough, clear piece of work. It's definitely more than a story and the 'style' is appropriate to the content. So many interesting and fun details everywhere.
Natural Born Killers is as subtle as a sledge hammer. After half an hour, I was hoping that the critical comments on media coverage would be enough to make me appreciate it but in the end, this flick just annoyed the heck out of me. Everything (dialogue, acting, editing, camera work) is so in-your-face. Satire aside, the wohle thing is way too exaggurated and missing its own point. Too bad.
I expected absolutely nothing from this american film, and what I got is truly surprising. Natural Born Killers is a chaotic road movie that features unusual editing and camera techniques, an abusive usage of violence, a very controversial theme, horrific characters but what I loved the most is how this film shows pure insanity in every minute, Oliver Stone did a wonderful job with the prison scene.
Watched it last night for the first time in years. It has aged far better than I thought it might upon release. Pretty much defines Over The Top, but is indicative of 90's film styling. I remember being viscerally effected by the film when it opened - now there is much more humor (though dark, obviously) than I remembered. Worth a fresh look, 15 years on.
First viewing was memorable, wife and I sat in the first row, throughout the film, ppl on our row kept going to the washroom... an hour in I understood why, the colours and editing was causing the "Pokemon" effect, and those closest to the screen was getting physically sick. being used to chemically induced trips I was able to finish the film before vomiting. A truly visceral film.
While the message in the movie is valid and true, Stone couldn't have been any more of a smartass in the way he shows it to the audience. A great exercise in trying too hard.
Technically speaking, it's a masterpiece. The effort that went into this film is beyond belief. Sure, the theme has been done before, but so has every theme. Good message, powerfully conveyed in a terrific movie that's never disturbing and always entertaining, and tells you you're wrong to think so. Perfect movie. Five Stars
Bizzaro masterpiece. Underrated by Tarantino fanboys. Most people seem to miss the message =(
It's probably not fair, comparing the final film with the original screenplay, but I just can't separate the two in my head. In retrospect, maybe the film isn't all that bad on its own.
Tarantino's script wasn't perfect, but I'd rather have seen that than this. Stone missed the point entirely.
The sit-com satire of Mallory's home life is, perhaps, one of the most phenomenal movie moments I've witnessed!
The scenes on the road with just Mallory and Mickey in the car really reminded me of Sailor and Lula (from Lynch's Wild at Heart). Mallory is definitely 100x crazier than Lula Fortune but they're really similar characters.
This is definately in my top 10 favourite films of all time. I love every second of it.
Good flick, but it would've been way better had Tarantino directed it with his original script.
