I watched just 5 minutes of this "movie", but I think they are enough to give the worst opinion on this.
Please Federico have mercy of them!
The only thing that's worth watching is Marion Cotillard's song, "Take It All". The rest is just a waste of stars...
A messy, impenetrable folly.
It's OK, not much to say.. Penelope ♥
Ughh, what a crap film! I was so excited to see it in theatres, and I was totally disappointed, indeed, the actresses are lovely, beautiful women, but that's not what makes a good movie. This movie is simply the story of a womanizing director that lost his touch, big whoop!
Rather futile musical about Federico Fellini. The songs are forgettable, only Penélope Cruz and Kate Hudson's acts may be saved from total oblivion. Nonetheless, already forgotten. A DVD zone why didn't I see a giallo instead ?
Please can we give Zero stars.
i almost want to see it just because of the cast
" Nine" is an ambitious film that almost had me but its lack of substance and musical mediocrity shadowed its entertaining flashes of brilliance.
Some excellent individual performances save it (almost) from being a complete mess. Rob Marshall's production is dripping with style, but even the superb cinematography and set design can't gloss over a pretty mediocre musical that's packed with bland, overly obvious songs that oversimplify and trivialize Fellini's masterpiece. Maybe worth watching for the performances and style, but this one's not a success.
While the films looks great as do Marion Cotillard and Penelope Cruz, Who is magma hot and sexy in the film. Yet, All i could think of is for the budget and cast that they assembled they could have made a good original film rather then a hollow remake. That doesn't have the depth, charisma and charm of the original 8 1/2. Daniel day lewis plays the lead as more torutred showing no charm at all.
CRAZYSPHINX: I will come back to this thread when I'm feeling down and need a laugh just to look at the absolute naïvety of your comment: "I saw Daniel Day-Lewis's Guido as an actor trying hard to play a hack director pretending to have a midlife crisis. I like Fergie's musical number though."
As bizzare and pointless as it sounds on paper. It loses the playful surrealism and ambiguity of Fellini's work for something much more lightweight and sugar coated with only a few memorable tunes and whilst not awful by any means it contains perhaps Day Lewis's least remarkable performance. That said, Marion Cotillard is reliably terrific.
WHY IS FELLINI ASSOCIATED WITH THIS LAMENTABLE MEDIOCRITY! SACRILEGE!
Not that I'm comparing this in anyway to 8 1/2 (I wouldn't), but while I bought Marcello Mastroianni's Guido as a genius film director going through a midlife crisis, I saw Daniel Day-Lewis's Guido as an actor trying hard to play a hack director pretending to have a midlife crisis. I like Fergie's musical number though.
Nowhere near as bad as I thought it would be. Daniel Day Lewis and Marion Cotillard were the highlights. Sure, it isn't great but it isn't terrible either.
Even if I don't compare it with Otto e Mezzo, this is still horrible. A great actor as Day-Lewis doing this, also makes me want to throw up.
I had previously rated this 3/5, but despite Day-Lewis, Cruz and (especially) Cotillard, the Rob Marshall obliteration stands out.

Some films are so obviously a bad idea even before the camera rolls, it's amazing it's not obvious to everyone. http://eddieonfilm.blogspot.com/2010/05/la-ballo-vuoto-o-nein-nein.html
Pretentious film snobs think this film is blasphemy because of what it "takes" from Fellini's over-rated 8 1/2. This is not a remake. However, I will admit this film isn't so great but it's not so bad either. Cotillard and Cruz's performances are standouts.
I've no issue with the Fellini aspect of the film... I just thought the execution and some of the acting was dreadful
