This might just be my favorite movie of all time...and that's not an exaggeration.
Mastroianni Jr. in an Araki film? Fuck me. Truly, an amazing lineup of '90s who’s who, with Araki himself the unholy lovechild of Fassbinder, Waters and Cronenberg of the era. Off the hook.
"Just one person in this huge, horrible, unhappy universe who can hold me in their arms & tell me everything is going to be okay & how long do I have to wait before that person shows up. I feel like I'm sinking deeper & deeper into quicksand. Watching everyone around me die a slow, agonizing, death. It's like we all know way down in our souls that our generation is going to witness the end of everything." - Dark
A 90s wet dream. Which 90s icon ISN'T in this movie? James Duval is a total Baldwin.
probably the hardest araki to find on DVD, I saw this by chance on IFC or something when I was young and I just thought it was absurd and stereotypical and amazing. As a new york kid, this is what I saw cali-kids like at the time, and to see something this shallow have such an interesting message about growing pains and underlying personal complexes was fan-fucking-tastic. Gregg Araki is a wild guy.
Such a crazy movie, filled with the most genuine 90´s feeling and the underground aesthetics is frascinating. I can almost say it is perfect in its genre, but i gotta admit it is not really my type of movie. Still, it´s pretty touching in its quest for pureness in a fucked up world.
