Synopsis

In the French countryside, a young boy (Olivier) strangely vanishes from home, his disappearance covering lingering dysfunctions within a strained family. Incredibly, the boy returns six years later. But is he a fake?

The 15-year-old male prostitute who fits the description of the missing Olivier is reunited with his parents and sister. Sneering and arrogant, the aloof teen is embraced by a desperate mother, and the father rushes back from Africa to see his son. However the young daughter, headstrong and fiery, remains unconvinced the boy is her brother after a sexual relationship develops between them. Who is this boy and what will he do to stay in the family? This haunting and mesmerizing thriller was adapted from a true story, and comes from the brilliant Polish writer/director, Agnieszka Holland (Europa, Europa).

I tried ordering Oliver Oliver in Canada, the DVD, but can't get it. I saw the film years ago, in Toronto, when it came out. It was very haunting then - the film, that is. I wonder if I saw the film now, would it live up to my memory of the film? If I could order the film, in Canada, I would.
