Once (2006)

By Igor Varga on March 18, 2010

First of all, this isn’t a cliche movie, but it also isn’t a indie masterpiece, like many people called it. There’s no doubt of its unique way to astonish, and some of the scenes were indeed filmed with a great sense for certain situations. Film was shot in interesting style of documentary realism, and I found it marvelous, if I ever make a movie that’s the way I’m gonna do it.

I really liked Marketa Irglova acting, and I was a bit indefferent towards Glen Hansard, but two of them obviously did a great job for two amateur actors.

In the end there’s just something that lacked. Something that would give it a deeper meaning.

But basically, this is a film for anyone who loves singer-songwriters music, and in it’s nice plot tries to affiliate various topics – from today’s music production, immigration and living in Dublin to love and emotional relationships between people.

If you love music, I mean really LOVE music, you’ll definitely like it.
