Adapted from Arswendo Atmowiloto’s Kawinnya Juminten (1985), this film opens with the 25th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Padmo (Rachmat Hidayat and Tuti Indra Malaon). Mrs. Padmo’s is jealous of her husband’s secretary, Retno (Niniek L. Karim). This jealousy is increased when she discovers Heru (Onky Alexander) went out with Ipah (Nurul Arifin), while her driver Martubi (Alex Komang) is dating Juminten (Nani Vidia), Retno’s maid. This jealousy soon will also disturb the friendship of Heru, Riri (Ayu Azhari), her children with Arsal (Iwen Darmanyah), son of Retno. Teguh Karya (born Steve Liem Tjoan Hok, 22 September 1937 – 11 December 2001) was an Indonesian film director. Starting his entertainment career in theatre, he made his directorial debut with the 1968 children’s film Jenderal Kancil, with his first adult oriented film, Wajah Laki-Laki, released three years later. He later directed numerous critically acclaimed films, including Cinta Pertama, Badai Pasti Berlalu, and November 1828. In 2001 Karya died from complications from a 1998 stroke.
Teguh Karya was born Steve Liem Tjoan Hok on 22 September 1937 in Pandeglang, Banten. He was the first child of Chinese Indonesians Laksana Karya (Tjon Hok) and Naomi Yahya there was some Bantenese descent from his grandmother. He attended elementary school in Pandeglang, but moved to Jakarta for junior high school, where he struggled with the exact sciences but did well in the creative arts and history.
