Palooka

Based on the famous comic strip hero, this film tells the story of Joe Palooka (Stuart Erwin), the son of a championship boxer who’s discovered by fight manager Knobby Walsh (Jimmy Durante) and given the chance to pump his golden gloves. Not only does he beat current champ Al McSwatt (William Cagney), but he also steals his girlfriend, Lupe (Nina Madero). But McSwatt wants a rematch — and this time, he’ll be in top shape.
