Visceral, fascinating, and beautiful. Patriotism is my introduction to the world of Mishima, and I can say I will be exploring his body of work further. Incredibly disturbing though, and talk about art imitating life. Mishima took his own life in the exact way depicted in this film four years later.

Desde sus primeras imagenes, este cortometraje de Yukio Mishima (su unica experiencia como director) se impone como una verdadera chingoneria. Compendio del sentir ideologico del escritor, el film es una especie de anuncio previo al espectacular suicidio de Mishima. Confiscado durante años por su viuda, ahora se puede ver libremente. La versiòn americana (con musica de Aaron Embry) es una experiencia sublime.

A short violent film with stunning imagery, Mishima's Patriotism is a depiction of his ideas about sex, death and violence and also his political stand. Considering the fact that 4 years later, he committed seppuku in the same way really changes the experience of watching this film... The harakiri scene is one of the most violent scenes I have ever seen.
