Coco had just moved in to his new home with his pregnant wife Pipi when the building gets quarantined because of a deadly virus. Soon, their neighbors –especially Zanutto, a seventy year old man armed to the teeth– turn into unexpected enemies, and Coco is forced to seal an alliance with the unstable and paranoid Horacio (who’s very well equipped) to defend the content of his fridge and keep Pipi safe. Meanwhile, outside the building the world as we know it is about to end. The fantasy genre is not usually visited by local cinema; Phase 7 runs against that omission addressing a very particular Apocalypse taking place right here, right now. The story unfolds in a typical Buenos Aires building (in a neighborhood we can barely see apart from some streets and roofs) and shows us some of the also recognizable and disturbing Argentine habits. With a very black humor, Phase 7 tells us that hell is other people, but also that they are perhaps the only chance we have to get out of here alive. –Mar del Plata International Film Festival
Lo único realmente genial es ver a Federico Luppi haciendo de Zanutto y liquidando a medio edificio con su escopeta.
