It was a wonderful experience to discover the performer and ballet director Pina Bausch through the sensibility of Wim Wenders.
The seasons’ coreography is all over the course of the film (from the first until the last scene) as the seasons are over the course of life. That sense of the briefness of life opposes the divine position Pina has in the movie. Although offering few explanations of Pina’s work, Wenders shows up the purposes and inspirations of her timeless art.
Some extracts of her impressive coreography are instanced during the film. Her Cafe Müller (1978) is one of the most awful: a dancer running through a room full of chairs, while a male dancer clear the way, anticipating her steps. But some new coreographies were also used, with Wenders using Pina’s own method of working (as in the movement about Alegria mentioned in the film), picturing in the city the dancer’s wordless answers of the director’s questions about Pina.
The dancers made clear how she was aways present in finding the truth of each gesture – and their portraits were recorded while listening to their own interview about the experience of working with Pina.
I thank Wenders for exposing me to Pina’s work. He achieved to eternalize an art that before only existed while one was performing that. Unfortunatelly I didn’t have the opportunity of watching the film in the language Wenders and Pina chose to preserve the dance, but even in 2D it is beautiful.

Pina não é um filme, não é um documentário e muito menos um musical. Pina é uma homenagem apaixonada de Win Wenders para Pina Bausch, a consagrada bailarina e coreógrafa alemã, conhecida por contar histórias carregadas de emoções em suas peças. Coreografias feitas em conjunto com seus bailarinos, aproveitando os limites e especialidades de cada um, tornando cada experiência única.
Pina, o filme, se alterna entre sequências de danças, das famosas coreografias de Pina, e depoimentos de seus alunos e bailarinos, que conviveram com ela durante tempos variados. Dentre as sequências de danças, temos algumas remontagens fiéis de seus clássicos, como o inquietante “Café Müller”, intercalados com homenagens particulares de cada um de seus alunos, abusando de locações de tirar o fôlego.
A fotografia é estonteante, e nem poderia ser diferente. O filme foi elaborado em 3D, e assim deve ser assistido. A tecnologia não é gratuita, como em muitos blockbusters que vemos por aí. A terceira dimensão em Pina vem na forma de perspectivas, proporções e profundidades, equilibrando e acentuando os belíssimos enquadramentos escolhidos.
Ao término da sessão, fica na cabeça o registro apaixonante de um fã para seu ídolo. Uma homenagem reconhecida e merecidíssima para alguém que transcendeu a arte, criou escola e deixou sua marca para sempre.
