I never got the backlash towards this nor At World's End. I didn't see On Stranger Tides, but it looked bland in comparison.
One of the more daring Hollywood films of the 2000s. It has a fitful and energetic sense of cinematic invention that can, in spirit, be compared to Hong Kong. Verbinski has a definitive surrealistic sense of humor and sequence construction that lends to the overall sense of relentless movement and shifting surfaces that make the film exceptional. one of the most wildly textured films of the aughts.

I wanted more atmosphere. I was excited about this film because I loved the ride, but this film lacked the creepy atmosphere that the ride had. Sure, it had these zombie pirates, but they were goofy and gross rather then creepy. And while I loved Depp's performance I think it also took the atmosphere in more of a comedic direction instead of the sinister one that I would have enjoyed much more. The film seemed to want to be sinister sometimes, but usually settled for silly.
This is not a great movie by any means, but it sure as Hell is entertaining, and not near as bad as everyone says. Just sit back and enjoy; it's pure escapism. Nothing wrong with that.
I recognize that it's a good movie, it's well made and accomplishes what it sets out to do. It's just...well, it just doesn't suit my tastes
The action sequences are a lot of fun, but other thank that Jack Sparrow can suck my balls.
A lot of fun! Forget the logic thing. Just sit back, relax, and enjoy the movie!
