A fascinating man gets an admiring, if not overly illuminating, documentary about his life as a great American writer who revolutionized investigative journalism by exploring other professions, from football player to trapeze artist, and writing about his experiences. Plimpton was never as widely respected as the writers he championed in The Paris Review, but this film reveals him as a great artist in his own right.
