Although celebrated among Hong Kong cinema fans for its action-packed finale, this Joe Cheung film is primarily a buddy comedy about two cops, Shin Chin-Chian (Jacky Cheung) and Chiang Li-Chi (Stephen Tung). The pair’s investigation of some murderous underworld figures is hampered by a visit from Shin’s mainland cousins and Chiang’s encounter with an ex-girlfriend (Bonnie Fu) who’s witnessed a mob hit.
The bad news: the DVD has a murky, washed out image with poorly translated subtitles that are cut off by the edges of the frame. The movie itself consists mostly of slapstick sex comedy. Why you'll watch it anyway: the last 20 minutes of "Pom Pom & Hot Hot" feature action sequences so broadly stylized, they're less like other Hong Kong heroic bloodshed flicks and more like an early 90's anime brought to life.
