Synopsis

In the framework of the New Deal politics, Joris Ivens was commissioned to film the benefits of rural electrification. The film shows the situation before and after the Rural Electrification Administration brought electricity to the farm of the Parkinson family. Although the commentary is a bit over the top, this documentary is a beautiful poetic film on the development of the American countryside. —ivens.nl

Joris Ivens

Joris Ivens (18 November 1898, Nijmegen – 28 June 1989, Paris) was a Dutch documentary filmmaker and committed communist.

In 1931 Ivens went to the Soviet Union… read more

How sickeningly luxurious the "1st" world is, such a decadent condition, it's cities and lifestyle, how corrupt and vain it's government and echelons, how disturbing it's choices and positions, so disabling and exploitative in it's progress, what a tyrant leading the "3rd" world.

Even though it's hard work, there is something very desirable about a simpler life, one that works with nature rather than machinery. Ironic that the more that aids us the more complicated things are, symbiosis weakens us, to trade off our nature. Cities are so detached from the nature on their borders. Why is it the responsibility of few to meet the demands of many, why does nature need to be changed into machinery?
