Venla works as a psychologist at a fertility clinic. She dreams of having a child with her long-term boyfriend Antero. Her dreams of creating an ordinary family life start to crumble when symptoms of a romantic kind start to blossom between her and Satu, a sympathetic female doctor who has agreed to help her.
Venla is well aware that having children is a big decision which both parents should consider and agree on. However, her husband is firmly against the idea, and in addition to this, turns out to be sterile. Venla’s only option seems to be the clinic and the millions of sperms lying dormant in liquid nitrogen.
Venla’s dream about a normal family starts to crumble when her friendship with the female doctor helping her in the fertilization process starts to develop into something romantic. In order to get on with her life, Venla has to give up everything she has and accept everything she hasn’t expected.
Watched as this is one of the few Finnish films at my local library. Didn't enjoy... a collection of some of the most selfish, least likeable protagonists I've ever come across, but the film is framed as a quirky romcom, so my repulsed reaction doesn't seem intended by the filmmakers. The only reason I can think of for which someone would want to make this film is that it's autobiographical, which is just terrifying.
