Strepitoso Cronenberg che senza abbandonare la sua poetica del body horror realizza un film violentissimo, disgustoso e che riesce a essere una delle migliori storie di zombie (o vampiri) senza effettivamente essere una storia di zombie.

Let the dread truth be told: morphogenetic neutrality is a lie! Of course, the news has come too late, the plague's work is complete, and putting Marilyn Chambers out with the trash is a merely symbolic gesture. Connections among putative self-improvement through science, sexual license, and the accidental unleashing of dark forces "from within," so typical of early Cronenberg, are drawn here with frothing ferocity.

Such a good Cronenberg. The look of the 70's is so perfect, and Chambers' portrayal of a selfish monster is really great.

Very similar in tone with Shivers although not as subversive and explorative of Cronenberg's themes of interests, he sets up the cause early in the movie to develop the consequences without caring much about giving insight into the subject, consequently approaching a much more standard effort in the horror/epidemic genre.

Mais uma experiência marada que resulta numa epidemia, tal como no Shivers. Neste caso as vítimas transforman-se numa espécie de zombie-vampiro-com-raiva e morrem ao fim de 8 horas. É engraçado e vê-se bem, mas não é nada de especial.

Cronenberg's early films have a odd playfulness to them but was still learning the ropes from a technical standpoint. He foreshadows a lot of interesting observations with blood disease/STDs which makes the casting of a porn star interesting. However it doesn't have the narrative drive of his later work ( oddly I'd say his recent work lacks playfulness). If he wanted to remake any of his films this is my choice.

Early effort from Cronenberg is an uneven, but entertaining B horror film. The pacing is awkward, and the performances and production values are lackluster. But there are enough lurid moments and early elements of Cronenberg's body-horror ethos to keep it moving. Fun, but Cronenberg would go on to improve vastly as a filmmaker.

Un clasico de Cronenberg. Curiosa mezcla entre el cine vampirico y el de zombies, esta delirante cinta (protagonizada por la actriz porno Marilyn Chambers) alcanza tales grados de escatologia y gusto por el gore, que la violencia constante manejada durante el film, resulta verdaderamente graciosa, al grado de que ver la pelicula resulta ser tan cagado como ver el video donde le rompen la madre a Silvio Berlusconi.

Cronenberg's gratuitous cocktail of zombies, sex and violence doesn't work as good as in his first feature, but still succeeds to crawl your skin. A very entertaining, disgusting and gratifying surprise.
