Now THIS is a film!

Now all the performances are good but its Joan Fontaine that shines here. She plays her character so beautifully.
Laurence Olivier is the inwardly tormented soul and Judith Anderson is great as the eerie, jealous Mrs. Danvers.
All the characters are a joy to watch.

I’d have to say that out of the Hitchcock films I’ve seen so far, this is the most beautifully shot. The sets and locations are simply wonderful, the lighting and shadow work is fantastic and quite frankly some of the images are startling sublime.

The story itself is fantastic, though it’s far more interesting when the mystery is still there. Once we discover more information about some events and the film takes a slight turn, I did lose some interest. But who cares after you hit that incredible ending.

So far I’d have to rank this amongst the very best of Hitchcock’s work. In fact it’s just cemented my love for this master of cinema.
