Synopsis

An American businessman (Richard Gere) finds himself charged with murder and thrown headfirst into China’s nightmarish legal system in this thriller from director Jon Avnet. The director and his co-star, Bai Ling, filmed covertly in Beijing for a week without government approval. For the rest of the footage, production designer Richard Sylbert meticulously re-created the city on a Hollywood back lot, using hundreds of props imported from Beijing.
