My too!
Extremely disturbing dive into madness. For sure, the best Catherine Deneuve's acting performance.
Thank god that Roman Polanski knows the truth! Far too much time has been spent in Hollywood talking about the travails of twos; people only get into any real trouble in threes, and only make love in fours (like the old Freudian quote that Durrell uses to open his Alexandrian quartet).
“You can do what you want, it’s a free country. But don’t ever ask me to explain any of my pictures.”
I found it bit boring, but doesn't mean a bad movie. I wanna give it 3,5 stars, as I did for Black Swan.
a masterpiece...whether it be referred to as campy or part of Polanski so called "Apartment Trilogy" which I have only a slight understanding of...it is amazing to be his first American Feature and it is a preview of much more of him to come...
icky, itchy, picky, squishy, scratchy. I find myself biting my nails while watching. Technically shaky at points but fairly brilliant compositions. Her madness is as writhing outside the apartment as it is within. A suppressive trance cripples her. "Men, they are all the same, they want to be spanked and then given sweets!" But is is a man who comes to rescue her -all too late. Slicing and spooky sound and editing.
This movie must be one of Aronofskys biggest inspirational source when he wrote Black Swan. One of the best psychological thrillers I've seen ever and the best I've seen from Polanski.
Undoubtedly Polanski's best work. An excellent psychological thriller. Catherine Deneuve in her finest performance, played a role of young, introverted & sexual repressed girl. Polanski pulls us into the inner depths of this girl, who can no longer distinguish between reality and illusion. Repulsion is an extraordinary painting of loneliness, depression & disorientation. Highly Recommended!
Jesus Christ, this was amazing! Repulsion took a while to build up, but once it got going nothing was capable of stopping it. I can't decide which I loved more -- the photography, the direction, the acting or the unnerved feeling the movie left me with. So many movies owe so much to Repulsion (coughBlackSwancoughFireWalkWithMecough!!) I definitely should've seen this sooner...
Polanski's signature deliberate pacing synergizes perfectly with Catherine Deneuve's eerie performance, making Repulsion the most disturbing member of the Apartment Trilogy. Excuse my flatulent, critic wannabe description, but this is a great film.
Would be an interesting and creepy look at insanity if it wasn't for Catherine Deneuve's blank performance.
I feel silly for waiting so long on this one. It was brilliant! Don't hesitate, watch!
