every movie loses something without Michael Shannon
Titanic 2.0 ..... or not. It's quite boring, but the performances of the actors help the movie a bit. And has DiCaprio ever had a normal onscreen wife in his filmography? lol
OH how I hate this film... Torching me. Breaking my heart to pieces... Infidelity. Sad sad sad :'(
Powerful in so many ways. DiCaprio and Winslet both my most favorite actors, give powerhouse performances. They really have a great chemistry together. The whole movie is alive and beautiful and accomplishes everything it portrays. I must appreciate the ambition! Yes, this movie is very depressing and is not easy to watch. But if you are willing to deal with a bit of stark reality, then this one is a must watch.
"You're not worth the power it takes to blow you up!" Talk about the most incendiary .gif image.
2 hours of watching it holding my breath, 3 hours of post shock, at idon;tknowhowmany hours of discussion with my mother. she told me to go and make myself some tea, relax, and not to watch it again. but i think i'll return to the book someday. i loved loved this film.
Encantado como silenciosamente la historia se convertia en un fiel retrato de una sociedad en decadencia... Kate Winslet como siempre deslumbrante.
The first time I watched it, I thought it was low and tedious, but the second time I watched it I realized that it had to be slow so we as the audience can understand the more about the characters and why they act this way.
it strikes me as ironic that this rather mainstream hollywood movie was, of all the films i have seen in my life, the one which made me the most desperate and depressed. and that's a compliment. a huge compliment.
A husband and wife argue with each other for nearly two hours about whether or not they should move to Paris. Pros: It’s France! Cons: They don’t speak French, their kids don’t speak French, they aren’t sure they’ll be able to get a job, a house, or have any kind of future, and, apparently, Leo doesn’t even want to go that bad. Sounds like a pretty good movie, right?
Quiet lives of desperation - the simultaneous dawn & dusk of the american dream - and a very "genuine" feeling cast of central characters rather unsuccessfully coping with it. Powerful, to say the least - the ending left me feeling hollow - and floored, and that feeling stayed with me for days... I fully expected it though - virtually everyone involved with this project is an all star, and all were in top form!
I actually really enjoyed this film, my absurd love for Leo aside. Something about it really hit home for me; I can completely relate to April's character. I guess I like movies with dreary, depressing, and hopeless outlooks. The ending was predictable, but other than that I can't find much wrong with this movie.
Given how much married people nag singles to get hitched, it's always baffling to see films like this with such a dreary outlook on married life (or the suburban life). The actors are good but the subject is remarkably unremarkable. The high point is Michael Shannon as the sole oracle of truth.
Weird, I liked the movie a lot. I think movies are not all about entertainment, and this one depicts pain and frustration extremely well. It's depressing, but it's good. The fact that it is an "ordinary" story about "people screaming at each other" does not mean that it is bad. And it's based on a novel, so the "ponting fingers" isn't from Sam himself... even though most Americans DO deserve it.
If you enjoy two unlikable characters screaming at each other for 2 hours, this is the movie for you!. Revolutionary Road is a perfect example of bad filmmaking, a truly terrible piece film. It's patronizing, pretentious, and basically consists of some pretentious British director wagging his finger at Americans and their way of life. I don't recall the last time a movie made me angrier.
The acting from Leo DiCaprio was beyond excellent. He put so much emotion and truthfulness into it. Not to say that I don't believe that Kate Winslet had her moments, blieve me it was much better than their 1st pairing in Titanic. I believe that the screenplay was even more superb. I didn't expect the plot and the cast's performances. Just wish that Leo received an Oscar nomination for his performance.
Revolutionary Road is a depressing character piece about a married couple that is slowly but definitely drifting apart. The film becomes more intense with every minute and ends in a depressing finale. Sam Mendes stays true to the novel written by Richard Yates. I admit that he even makes it easier for me to find at least a little sympathy for the rather unlikable characters as portrayed by Yates. The cast led by Kate Winslet and Leonardo DiCaprio is superb and helps to make this a powerful story, which stayed with me even days after I had left the cinema.
Revolutionary Road = American Beauty part 2. Which is good. Mendes did a great a job to depict an 'ideal' American family. Beautiful on the outside, but rotten inside. Superb performance by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet. I think this is the best DiCaprio's performance so far. Plus, Winslet deserved an Oscar for this role rather than her act in The Reader.
I can't agree with all the Rev Road bashing. This movie is absolutely incredible and at least equal to the novel in my eyes (more powerful than the novel for me). Sam Mendes' career best and potentially Winslet's as well. Haythe adapted it really well and the added focus on April made the film different than the novel in a beneficial way.
