Franky’s life has been on an impasse for quite a few years. An inexperienced actor, he spends his days smoking and picturing the moment when his career will rocket to success. Convinced as he is that this will certainly happen, deep down he seems to be enjoying his present, a sort of calm before the storm. Until one day his manager, a kind of crazy guy named Arsène convinces him to drive from France to a film festival in the Arctic to meet their favorite director. According to Arsène the car their driving is his. According to him, also, the purpose of the trip is a job interview with the star filmmaker. A “melancomical” road movie (that’s the term the two directors use), Robert Mitchum Is Dead goes through its scenes the same way the leading couple does: stepping on the gas, stepping in weirder and weirder situations, stepping foot on an old continent that still maintains its most violent and unpredictable reflexes. You better not look through the rear-view mirror. –Mar del Plata International Film Festival
