Colombian filmmaker Victor Gaviria, internationally recognized for his films ‘La Vendedora de Rosas’ and ‘Rodrigo D: No Futuro’, is preparing the shooting of a film about high school students in a Bogota slum.
The filmmaker, famous for his focus on the marginalized in Colombian society, will be shot in Ciudad Bolivar, one of Bogota’s most infamous slums and star the students of local high schools, who are forced to deal with violence on a daily basis.
According to local Education Secretary Jorge Perez, some 6,000 pupils of 30 high schools will take part in the production of the movie. The initiative is to give the teenagers an alternative way to spend their time away from violence.
The students, through forums and audiovisual workshops, are involved in the pre-production of the film.
