Like the victim says in the film; you weren't there, you don't know how they felt or what they thought.
It looks like a fairytale for conservative people : the bad, pervert, foreign (is it really a country Poland ? I imagine their thoughts...), jewish, successful film director who has sex the poor white, blond, all-american, catholic girl ? It is a fairytale for people who want to express their conservative and moral views on society, a piece of cake for them.
And it looks like american people are so interested in that case and people who talk about it, the journalists, the judge, people who make documentaries about it. What's their point ? Is it bad to have sex with a minor girl ? Yes. Did he recognize it ? He has been punished for that and nobody should talk about it anymore, thinking how this could hurt the people who were exposed at this trial.
I don't really like this kind of documentary films, they take extracts from "Rosemary's Baby" to illustrate that Polanski could be a pervert and, in fact, they don't explain his personality and even less (if possible) his films : they use his films to still talk about the same old subject. The only positive thing I found in it is that it explains what happened on his trial, but that's all and that's little...
Wonderfull documentary on Roman Polanski, very interesting historically and artistically...
Michelle Wayne, if you saw this film, your attack on the victim and her mother seems really off-base She wasn't a liar. Polanksi admitted to having sex with her. I.m guessing the people with the strongest opinions on this film are those who haven't seen it. Roger Hayn, you also seem to be talking about something other than the film. You should see it and revisit your opinions. US justice served neither party well.
Poor Roman Polanski. LOL. Frankly I could care less whether or not he goes to jail. It has nothing to do with me. If the "American legal system fucked Roman Polanski," then Roman Polanski shouldn't have fucked with the American legal system first. It's common sense. It's the same reason I don't sell acid. Sure, I don't think selling acid should be considered a crime, but my reality doesn't match everyone else's apparently, and furthermore I use my self-control to not sell acid and avoid the possible scenario of being thrown in jail. When you do something that is not only illegal but morally frowned upon, you need to prepare to get fucked over. It's the unfortunate part of the game. Despite his body of incredible work, he's still just another rich, Hollywood conditioned baby who thinks he can do whatever he wants and not have to take responsibility for it. This film does a great job of diverting attention away from the fact that Roman Polanski provided drugs to, then had sex with girls in their early teenage development. Sure sounds like a cool guy to me... :o/. Maybe that's how they get down in the oh so sexually enlightened Poland, but I guess we're just behind the times out here in this horrible prison of a country called the United States.
Before you formulate an opinion on the controversy surrounding Roman Polanski, see this movie. It doesn't excuse what he did to Samantha Geimer, in fact it doesn't necessarily comment on it at all. Instead what it does is examine the way Polanski was treated during the trial. If you're a fan of Polanski's films, or if you have an opinion on the controversy, see this.
It was great to see the full story behind the infamous incidents in Polanski's life. While the film doesn't exonerate him it certainly shows a miscarriage of justice. Fascinating doc for a fascinating man.
