Synopsis

Jack Grimaldi (Gary Oldman) is a dirty cop who does favors for the Mafia in exchange for large fees. He has a loving wife, Natalie (Annabella Sciorra), and an adoring mistress, Sheri (Juliette Lewis). He thinks he has it all, until both the cops and mob are outwitted by a vicious Russian mob assassin named Mona Demarkov (Lena Olin).

Peter Medak (born 23 December 1937) is a Hungarian-born film director of British and American films.

Early life

He was born in Budapest, Hungary to a Jewish family, but in 1956 fled his native country for England due to the Hungarian Revolution. There he began a career in the film business, starting as a trainee and gradually rising until he became a film director.
Career

Medak was signed to direct television films for MCA Universal Pictures in 1963. In 1967 he signed with Paramount Pictures to make feature films. His first feature was Negatives, released in 1968.

Since then he has experienced an uneven career, producing some significant successes and a number of what were considered commercial failures. Some of his most notable works are: The Ruling Class (1972); The Changeling (1980); The Krays (1990), written by the artist and dramatist Philip Ridley; and Let Him Have It (1991). films like this give neonoir a bad name. the voiceover is irritating and it's far more sleazy than stylish. it keeps promising to get better...then goes straight to hell. the only thing worth watching here is lena olin's psychotic lingerie-clad hitwoman. i'll take ferrara's bad lieutenant any day

I have not seen in probably 13 yrs. Saw it in 94 first day it came out in theatres. Loved every minute. Not sure if it would have same effect on me. Early to mid 90s I watched everything of Oldman. This one had great atmosphere, dialogue, and acting. Seemed true if not prophetic of desperate man keepin too many fires lit for the hope of escape via money. The streets will be filled with animals...you keep breathing
