Gritty and raw performances from Jason Patric and Jennifer Jason Leigh headline an overlooked gem of a drama fueled by an immense sense of dread and a visual simplicity that is both suspenseful and awkwardly romantic.
I must have seen this film at least 20 times since 1991, between video rentals and late-night TV showings. It has some glaring plot flaws, but it's well worth watching for the nicely seedy, gritty 70s atmosphere and period detail; Eric Clapton's bluesy guitar score; and superb performances by Patric and Leigh at her most radiantly beautiful.
