UNTITLED

By Todd Kushigemachi on August 11, 2010

(Originally written February 2, 2007)

This film had potential. It had a chance to poke fun at many of the problems that young people face with organized religion. Instead, it ends up being too exaggerated and hyperbolic to make intelligent commentary on the way religion plays a factor in the lives of the teenage characters. It dodges the complexity of the situations and instead indulges in the boring clichés that characterize teenage movies: the outcast best friend, the popular bitch, the cute boy, etc. The use of music is awful, the way in which Joseph Arthur’s “In the Sun” is cued when everything is going wrong for the characters to heighten the emotional level of the audience without the film itself doing anything interesting.
