Five years after the end of the Civil War, former Confederate Col. Morsman Carver (Liam Neeson) leads a posse into the snowy mountains of the American West on a relentless hunt for an ex-Union officer named Gideon (Pierce Brosnan). Driven by rage, Carver seeks revenge on Gideon for a wartime horror that will forever bind — yet eternally divide — the two men. Anjelica Huston and Angie Harmon co-star in this epic thriller from David Von Ancken.
A western by name, a lament by trade, "Seraphim Falls" is an imperfect study of two men who mirror eachother so closely in their singlemindedness that they are chasing down and running from themselves more than the other. The final act, where a Mephistophelian figue provides them with the means to kill each other so long as they are willing to surrender what they would need to survive, is rather beautiful.
