Cliff Spab walks into a shop to buy a few beers and finds himself in the middle of a hostage drama. He and three other people are being held hostage in the shop by a gang who dreams of one thing: to be on TV. The hooligans kill one of their hostages and film the murder so as to be able to show it on prime time TV. They threaten to kill more hostages if their demands are not met. But it is Spab, with his up front opinions and ‘’so fucking what’’ attitude, who gets all the media attention. He becomes something of a folk hero and during transmission he coins the phrase that becomes the slogan for the new generation.

When they return to everyday life after thirty-six days of terror, they discover they have become celebrities. Wendy becomes the guest of honour in a number of different talk shows. But Spab goes underground to get away from his evermore fanatical fans. Spab and Wendy are reunited during a rock concert and the next day they go to Spab’s old school to tell about their experiences. In the middle of Spab’s speech they are shot at by a disillusioned teenage girl who has a motto of her own: ‘’Everything means something.’’ –Stockholm International Film Festival
