Poetic. Powerful. Dreamy. Where love can take us...
The clothing in Parajanov films > Every high fashion label
You can definitely see from this film where Tarkovsky takes some of his cues but I hadn't expected something this ethereal. The axe fight with blood that turns into animated red horses will forever stick with me.
Parajanov had an uncanny notion of film language, the camerawork seems to be in perfect harmony with each character and their interaction with the soviet landscapes, in a perfect example of both folkloric and rhythmic beauty.
Very interesting I never heard of him.I will definitely try to watch as soon as it's possible...Thanks!:-)
Do you hear the sounds of wailing and trumpets? I do.
Am I the only one who likes the camera movements of this film much better than those of his later work? It's much more organic and imbued with life.
Amazing dirty camera work ... the film on a whole made my heart feel numb and then tore it in half.
This is a vividly visual and visceral film from the brilliantly unique and visionary director Paradjanov. It remains one-of-a-kind with its dazzling, colorful cinematography, hallucinatory and surreal, and its almost ethnographic depiction of ancient agrarian life and rituals in a community of the Carpathian mountains. It is a tragic love story and a story of the earth, which is like a forgotten folk song of intoxicating wonder.
Earthy, kinetic, and thoroughly weird. Great!
visually brilliant, almost beyond words, and narratively mysterious. few artists who appear can be as elusive, talented, poetic and tragic as parajanov. a story which seems at points, like a form of adaptation of 'romeo and juliet', but says at the same time a lot about freedom and even more about oppression which is a very relevant point to the goskino era. one of the most significant works of the VGIK generation.
An amazing POP film: Poetic, Oneiric, Psychedelic.
Gah!! can't wait to see....
frantic, audacious, mindboggling, dizzying, exhausting, hysterical, delightful!
You can't get better than this for a perfect love story
Probably, one or of the most poetic films of all time, it's a unique experience such as russian film directors are the only one to provide.
One of the greatest achievements of all time.
Unlike anything I have seen. Hypnotic and wonderful.
Citizen Kane? Pfft... Shadows of Forgotten Ancestors.
The version I watched didn’t even have subtitles, but the inventiveness of the camera and the score alone make this such a unique and powerful film. Seriously, anyone know where I can get that score?
Simply astonishing, a must for slavophiles and cinemaphiles alike!
Paradjanov's films do not need any comment from anyone to be enjoyed. Unfortunately this film is the only film by Paradjanov I haven't seen. But I'm sure it will be a visual feast as his films usually are. Salute to this celluloid painter!
