Born in 1952 in Casablanca (Morocco).
After his bacalauréat (Humanities) in 1970, he studied drama at the Conservatoire national. From the early 70’s he was the assistant director of Souheil Ben Barka and collaborated on his films until 1981. After a short film Sans paroles (1977), he directed Le Facteur, his first full-length film in 1979. He wrote all his films from L’Enfance volée (1993) to Destin de femmes (1998), passing by Voleur de rêves (1995) and Un simple fait divers (1997). He was president of the Morocan technician chamber from 1992 to 1997, then vice-president of the Moroccan producers chamber. He directed also Destin de femmes (1998) and Elle est diabétique et hypertendue et elle refuse de crever (1999). —Africultures
