Just saw this the other day — it’s quite easily Reygadas’s best film, and a truly honest rumination on the rhythms and emotions and barriers in lives of those who chose to live according to very stern religious precepts. Reygadas lets his story, simple yet devastating as it is, unfold at its own pace, keeping his distance apart from the breathtaking opening and closing shots. This is the one to see at the biggest screen possible, and allow it to sink deep afterwards.
