Sin Nombre = "nameless". Tale of youth who dare to break free of conformities of gang community and a life bound nowhere. Tragedy strikes when one attempts an escape from ruthless "homies." Tough, touching, and sensitive.
I had no idea this was directed by an American film maker. Interesting. And absolutely brilliant. Heartbreakingly real from what I know of MS13 and the Immigration status between Mexico and the US...my husband made that journey from Mexico City...and believe me not everyone does make it, even when they don't have La Mata after them. This film stayed with me for days. Brilliant acting, excellent film.
What an incredible journey, a colorful and violent "road" movie. It's seldom that a movie commands your attention and empathy from beginning to end. Every shot is drenched with character emotion. Every frame takes us into the world of immigrants, travelers and gang members- of fathers and daughters and brothers. "Sin Nombre" is an unsettling celluloid poem depicting both suffering and enduring hope.
Not a bad film, but not much of anything at the same time, I agree, it was quite bland. I don't really have much good to say about the film. The trailer was better than the damn movie.
I watched this movie sometime in the last couple years, I haven't thought about it since, there was nothing memorable about it. I would say it had a good production quality, but with the blandness of the end result I lack all motivation to say anything good about this film.
A story of survival, that also has the audience caught up in the brutality of gang warfare.Parts are like a docudrama,as we witness the bleak, sad existence of those trying to cross the border from Mexico.Powerful.
Beautifully shot and Paulina Gaitan is a find for both her talent and beauty, but for the most part this film never really was anything more than adequate. The story would have been much more interesting with more focus on the immigration and less on the borderline cliché gang storyline.
A simple, incredibly impactful, and beautifully told story about seeking a better life. The journey is perilous, the stakes area as high as they get, but sometimes redemption comes from sacrifice and getting where you're going takes a leap of faith. It will make you appreciate how how far people are willing to go to get exactly what many of us take for granted. Highly recommended.
the only thing i thought was unbelievable was that el casper's girlfriend could be so frustratingly stupid.
I would like to point out that Smiley is not fleeing with Casper as it is stated in the synopsis. In fact, he is precisely who informs the gang of Casper's betrayal. I enjoyed the cinematography, but I felt the more prominent gang members look a lot more like actors than gang members. Other than that it was a short and sweet, well-executed picture.
Really great. But it never quite became the movie I wanted it to be. Initially it was extremely compelling, but it was kind of bogged down by (what is now) kind of tired gangland drama.
Interesting and intriguing on how it depicts the gang culture in Mexico. The only weakness of this film is for trying to meet the conventional norms overcasting most independent film making standards. In this regard, it falls into the trap of being pretentious. But altogether, the film features great acting, cinematography, editing and sound.
