This film was very similar to City of God in plot, characters, narrative style, and cinematography. However, it diverges for the worst into a dull sentimental love story.
Shocking.. I've never tought that something like this ever happen in India... The Mafia, The Street Life, The Religion-Clash. But the ending is still 'India' with all the dancing and stuffs
"yani herkes slumdog millionaire'i sevdi diye benim sevmemem suç mu?" o kadar zaman geçti, bu filmin amacının ne olduğunu, içinde kalite barındırıp barındırmadığını anlamış değilim. kurgu sadece farklı topraklarda olduğu için başkalarına çekici gelmiş. bana hiç gelmedi.
Would safely rather poke holes in my head than have to endure that tripe ever again!
Not as good as I remembered, Boyle's direction gets in the way of the story and the vacuous nature of Latika annoyed me...
You should definitely watch Salaam Bombay! instead of this precooked and dull Hollywood Blockbuster
Not really a masterpiece, and not a third-rate film.An interesting content surrounded by a lot of defects. A sharp view on poverty and inequalities, partially wasted by the fairytale ending... and the credits. I really want to put 4 stars for the merciless sincerity of the director, but i can't. A modern staging, of course...but maybe too modern, that is too say too shallow. In spite of this, the idea was good...
People shit on this movie way too much. It's a fairy tale, essentially. If you're looking for a realism, look elsewhere. Slumdog Millionaire is a movie about fate and love, the former being something I don't subscribe to; regardless, Boyle shot/edited this film so kinetically, plus Rahman's awesome score, etc. I think this movie is a hell of a lot of fun and pretty uplifting. Best Picture of 2008? No. Doesn't matter!
@SanjoyGhosh: part of the point is that the title is slightly ironic. Of course he's not a dog, but many people think he is.
I really love how Danny Boyle shoot and edit his films. The script is really good and clever event if the story ending is cliche and the blue print very simple. But this cliche is a good choice because it is a positive ending that match with the film mood and energy. As the film is build like a modern fary tail, the happy end arises from self.
I do not believe that people living in slums are "dog". Even though they become a millionaire.
I'm a big fan of Mr. Boyle (Trainspotting) and while The Beach was a dismal failure, 28 Days Later was surprising and inventive, proving resourcefulness and creativity can best budgetary restraints. I can't say I was a big fan of Slumdog, actually avoided it at first - just too much hype that overshadowed what I felt I could bring from a critical perspective. Better than I expected but airy, flawed, disappointing.
interesting in many of the aspects that it tries to investigate. but in the process of doing so, it betrays the many flaws that hold it back from getting anywhere near the utterly overblown hype it generated. a good, solid film from boyle, but no masterpiece and certainly nowhere near 'trainspotting'.
