It was definitely a change from all of the hard dramas of Akin that I'd previously seen in my German Cinema class. It started off strong and ended strong. The film was enjoyable on all fronts: acting, cinematography, editing directing. Bleibtreu was a superb as usual. Wish the chef Sharyn, got more screen time, as well as other minor characters who were well-executed. Like to see it adapted to TV.
As we all know it, food is federative. In American movies, like in Stanley Tucci's Big Night for instance, culinary delights serve more as a way to abolish social classes differences or to fulfill the ever vivacious American dream. But Fatih Akin is a German, of Turkish parentage, living in Europe so he uses this theme differently and emphasizes the power of food in the fight against racism or xenophobia. Isn't the Greek Zinos' backache finally cured by a Turkish (Greece and Turkey still have a big problem to solve) physical therapist ? Enjoyable.
Comfort food film! It delivers what it promises: broad comedy, a touching moment or two, late-70s soul. Get into the right mood, people! Zinos needs a hug!
I was in and out of this film, but, from what I saw, it seemed pretty chill. Fun, relaxing, a wee bit cliched, but nice.
A fun, light surprise of a film from the guy who made the more substantial Edge of Heaven. "Madcap goings-ons" are kept in check mostly by the likeable main character Zinos. There's no black and white moral distinctions in the film with the exception of a villainous real estate speculator but it's all good fun. I was hoping for a better blending of music + food but still good.
A fun & entertaining comedy. Birol Unel is hillarious. The high point is the soundtrack, from soul, rock, reggae, even gypsy dance music, it's a musical fiesta.
Warmhearted, feel good comedy from Fatih Akin is a breezy, entertaining confection filled with both heart and soul.

I love Fatih Akin, and this film was a lot of fun. But the film's genre limits the storytelling, and even within the framings of the genre there should've room for more emotional effect. I'd prefer a bit stricter editing in the mid-part, and more room for certain characters - the chef (Birol Ünel) had great potential, but was left out of the third act. Anyway - wonderful entertainment!
Utterly entertaining German film. Faith Akin designs a new line of European cinema, created from what we share more than what distinguishes each other. In this case, the story shows these very small moments in our lifes which makes us happy, such as eating or listening to music. The movements of the camera are extremely surprising, it's impossible getting used to them. The rythm isn´t soul but rather pop. Delicious!!
Not at the level of sublimity of Akin's two previous masterpieces, which would be expected. Instead, it recalls the light-heartedness and genuine fun of "In July," this time combining multiculturalism and food. Tremendously enjoyable.
It is an easy story... Nothing comparable to impressive previous Fatih Akin Dramas. But it amazing! Loved it!
