One of Rob Reiner's best movies along with The Princess Bride, a simple but affecting tale. All credit goes to the cast of the film; Wil Wheaton, Corey Feldman, Jerry O'Connell, Kiefer Sutherland and the outstanding River Phoenix.
The screenplay makes it all seem fresh, witty and charismatic. We all care for each character and brings so much heart when one suffers but the other helps him back up his feet.
What an impressive experience I can't, and won't ever forget. Check this out anyone http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vbg7YoXiKn0 River Phoenix was just so unbelievably charming.
Stephen King's short story has been perfectly translated with this film.
One of my top twenty favorite films, but can't always bring myself to watch it due to its depressing, pessimistic nature.
J'pense qu'il est difficile de trouver un meilleur film pour illustrer à quel point j'aimerais revivre ma jeunesse.
I wanted friends like this when I was a kid.
Molto nostalgico. Mi ha ricordato le mie avventure estive in campagna, quando scorrazzavo in bicicletta e la sera tornavo a casa con le ginocchia sbucciate. Cercherò la colonna sonora...
A childhood favorite that I can't bring myself to revisit. I loved it as a kid- but would I love it, or even like it, now? One part of me wants to see it like crazy. It's been so long that I only remember it in glimpses: the leech scene, the kids walking along the railroad tracks, the pie eating contest. BUT a bigger part of me wants to keep the film in my head, in my heart, where it's perfect.
One of cinema's most accurate depictions of boyhood.
I've always said Stephen King is at his best when he writes drama. This one goes up with Shawshank and Green Mile. The main actors may be one of the best child actors I've ever seen, the script and direction is well put together. Clearly one of the best coming of age films ever made.
It is as much a joy to watch today as it was 25 years ago when it came out. Story and characters feel so familiar, like it was your own story and like you were one of these characters...
One of the few films I can watch over and over and my feelings for it will never change, no matter what. The characters are like family and their experiences following that train track has become like a distant memory of mine.
I agree with the sentiments of previous posters - the kind of movie that every kid needs to see and can relate to. It reminds of childhood, whether it is because I can relate to things in the movie or because I was exposed to in my own childhood.
a 7/10

Everyone must have had at least one friend in their life and that’s enough to feel this movie.
Total disservice to not expose your kids to this. Thanks, mom and dad!
love this film!!! its epic, and always make me look back to when i was younger. Not many films nowadays have such heart and substence, unless there true stories. Great story, setting, actors, characters, and music.
amazing performance by the kids!
I re-watched this film today. Always heart-warming.
"A complete, and total, barf-orama"
'Stand by Me' is a coming of age story that does will in channeling that warm nostalgic feeling of misspent youth. It is otherwise largely void of much intrigue or entertainment, as the writing seems to stuck in the mentality of it's subjects and is riddled with cliches and false sentiment.
River Phoenix' performance alone made this film deserved to be seen. I just wished he would lived longer, he mightl be one of the greatest screen actor out there.
I'm a sucker for good child actors.
