Brilliant reboot that manages to maintain a relationship with the original series while also being totally different.

There a lot of things I like about this film. The cast is exceptional, and deliver the dialogue with verve, and the humor is brisk and enjoyable. Chris Pine, in particular, is an extremely charismatic star, and in my opinion, could be Great. The popping colors on the blinding white Enterprise are also very pleasing. Alas, a great deal of it is committed to almost television-level form. The sterling setpieces scattered throughout remind one that Abrams has potential in the arena of cinema.

I have always been iffy about the Star Trek franchise, but I adore this film. I must say that I like the lens flares, to me they add to the feeling of being in space, that light can be coming from anywhere. It felt so natural to me that I didn't even realize what people were complaining about at first.I think what makes this film work so well is that is the world and look of Star Trek, with a Star Wars feel and pace.

I’m not a Trekkie. I like this nevertheless. It does not create the urge within me to go and watch all of the previous movies and TV shows but it definitely makes me appreciate the unique characters, their friendship and loyalty. All the characters are fun to watch and the cast is lovely. A nice summer blockbuster.

gone to sh* is genes humanism allegoric storytelling replaced by star trek for dumb jocks and action movie buffs, something that started happening in star trek enterprise to drum up ratings wich is why star trek now will never have the fanbase or do for people what the movement in the 80s did. a sad pale immatation of its former self like most reboot fanboy fodder. C- although i want to give it a D+.

An angry bitter trekkie. Haha there's always hate from the 'real fans' for reboots.

fans of this movie are generaly not fans of the original series or tng, thier fans that think visionary filmmaking is movies like transformers 2 and g.i. joe. while props for having nimoy, the score for 2009 is god awful. pine is too angry while shatner was more fun to watch as he went from very friendly and charming to angry. I liked urban, quinto, anton and pegg and the rest of the new crew was mediocre and bland.

Biggest surprise of the decade. Century maybe. In all Cosmos. J. J. Abrams is not a complete douchebag after all. Don't like the time lapses in the beginning, but somehow I was always completely interested in everything. Spock is a great character, should be the center of the next movie - and I think there will be others. Maybe it's the space exploring thing mixed with science talk that makes everything so fun to me.

The special effects are amazing, and the acting is surprisingly solid...yet it left me cold, due to how it only barely touches on the fundamentals that make Star Trek as a series great in the first place.

Set Phasers to stun. JJ Abram's Star Trek is sublime. It's like the good old days when Star Trek was full of vibrant hot people. Love the original cast as you will, but it's been a while since they have been the dashing tight costumed adventurers that they were in the 70's. Chris Pine has no such trouble. Beam me up, Scotty! Warp drive ahead!

A very satisfying and enjoyable sci-fi movie. Even the cast are not disappointing. I honestly think Zachary Quinto’s portrayal of Mr Spock is amazing.

This movie was fun to watch - as a huge trekker I was even impressed. As someone who really dislikes almost everything J.J Abrams does...this movie was very enjoyable. For those who hated that it was a "reboot" of Star Trek, this is really the best way...we don't need a movie version of the "Enterprise" series...

This movie would have been great if Eric Bana wasn't so terrible as the stereotypical villain. Granted, it still gets a lot right it just could have been so much more. Casting Leonard Nimoy is a big plus, for example :3

Ugh...it's "First Cold of the Season" time again...I do believe curling up on the couch and watching Star Trek: XI is in order. Chris Pine as Captain Kirk makes it all better ;)

the ending was nothing of the humanitarian spirit of the original star trek franchise, this movie was about as revolutionary as transformers 1.

I loved the ending; thought it was a genius way to continue the franchise. Chris Pine was very good. I'll be interested to see if he gets typecast. The movie was true to the brand and entertaining. The best part was seeing the way all the young actors stepped into the traditional roles. Well done.

too bodly go...where no one over 25 wants to watch star trek anymore. yes its a movie made for reboot fanboys and while some of the cast is good (pegg, urban, quinto) some of the cast is quite dull, lacking what i believe made star trek interesting were the characters ages and thier accents (cho, zaldana, pine not having the zing of thier counterparts voices). also quiet utterly horrid ruining the movie is its music.

I was unexpectedly blown away. It hits all the necessary action/franchise points with charm and it clips along at a nice pace. Good performances all round, good CGI, and except for that Scotty/water pipe scene, all the plotting seems to have the end-game in sight. By the time the final crew-shot rolled in, I was eager for the next installment.

This movie probably has the best casting job I have ever seen. All of the actors who play the iconic crew of the Enterprise are spot on both in looks (as in they look exactly the way you would think a twenty year old Spock, Bones, or Kirk would), and characteristic tone be it Bones and his hard-bitten, yet humorous cynicism, etc. I don't think this film is overrated by any means. Up there with Kahn and First Contact.

What's fascinating to me is I saw this film in it's second week of release and I said, "Okay, best film I've seen so far this year. Might make my Top Ten, maybe towards the bottom." But, the truth is I only liked one other film more that year. I think "Star Trek" is just that good, and even the non-Trekkies will tell you that.

Entertaining, but overrated. Solid action and special effects (if overly frenetic at times), and the cast is up to the task. Easily one of the more successful of the recent slew of "reboots", it does a great job balancing the expectations of life-long fans and new audiences. It's not quite original enough to be the modern escapist masterpiece some have made it out to be, but it is above-average blockbuster entertainment.

There was much to like and much to dislike about this film. I thought that the choice of actors to play the young Enterprise crew was great, and I could relate to all of them as authentic. That said, I think the script left a lot to be desired and should have been edited a few more times. I don't expect total realism from a Trek film, but I really hate when I'm watching a movie and something so far fetched happens that it makes you remember that you are watching a movie. I'll give 2 examples: -Scotty shooting through the water cooling tubes. -Kirk making what seemed like a 100 foot jump in his battle with the Romulan. And speaking of Romulans, I wasn't crazy about the main bad guy. He was certainly no Khan, which reminds me of another scene that bothered me: the bug creatures that make you tell the truth. That was shamelessly stolen from Star Trek II. Summary: Not a great plot, not a great script, good choice of actors, and good special effects. Enjoyable, but could have been so much better.

I think it's a good sci-fi/action movie. Great visual effects, sound design, comedy. The script has its problems but overall it's very entertaining!

"by far my favorite Star Trek film. its not anything like the classics, but its so much better. no cheesy acting, no cheesy (but admirable) special effects, and most importantly, no cheesy villain. Eric Bana really impressed me as did the rest of the amazing cast. five stars for sure." Shit like that scares me.

Loud and obnoxious would best describe this film. I don't think it's fair to call this a good film just because the last Star Trek movies weren't good. It's a typical blockbuster film churned out only to make money, shallow of any artistic integrity.
