First full viewing as an "adult." Still pretty enjoyable. The bad elements (Mark Hamill, all of the dialogue) don't detract so much as add an extra layer of scrappy charm. Fine editing too.

The rare film that has become more than a film, rather a phenomenon. This is a near perfect film that not many films could rival!

In two minds here: taken as a single film this is a rollicking adventure filmed with considerable verve and charm, but the corrosive effect of the often juvenile drivel that erupted (and continues to) from Hollywood on the back of the financial success of Star Wars and its ilk reduce too much of mainstream film-making to being great monumental cubes of moulded faeces. What a phenomenal crossroads this was.

Part of me wishes Star Wars had been less successful, as much as that would deprive me of a lot of my childhood movie-watching experience. I wish George Lucas had continued making standalone films. Star Wars is a great continuation of the themes in THX-1138 and American Graffiti--man is in an unlocked cage, and all he has to do to leave it is will himself to step outside.

Watching this film on blu-ray was a bittersweet experience. The transfer looks gorgeous but the CG elements added for the 1997 Special Editions have aged terribly. Lucas should know there's more creativity to the technical limitations filmmakers faced in the 70's and how they overcome them than someone sitting at a computer circa now, adding digital creatures to fill out background shots just for the sake of it.

It's cliche and boring. There are so many films in the same formulaic plot. I don't know what makes it special.

Great flick...but eesh, the CGI stuff kills me. Why is Lucas trying to destroy his own legacy?

Star Wars on Blu-ray is amazing. The sound quality is incredible and the film has transferred well to hi-def. Worth $86 for the set? I would think so. Now on to episode 5.
