Shot in the Bronx and full of rare vintage graffiti, the film consists of footage of the IRT subway during the mid 1970s fused with billboard advertising imagery, and features whole cars by the FAB 5 (with a specific focus on the work of LEE and SLAVE). There are no words, just an eerie, sparse soundscape by Charles Mingus and his sextet. The film is a haunting look at NYC rolling steel, and predates the birth of mainstream hip-hop garffiti culture, providing a valuable insight into its aesthetic origins.
The Mingus soundtrack is fantastic! A perfect accompaniment to the film.
