The information is not frozen as in old photographs: it enables the past and the future to be interpreted – to the extent that human action is always a source of warmth and light and thus can be extrapolated into time and space (Paul Virilio). –IMDb
Substantial Shadows appears to limit itself to a shadow play. From the lightning flashes of a storm to the floods of artificial light inundating a metropolis, Lisl Ponger’s montage alternates different night shots. In this way she makes movement a central theme: the blaze of a fire, the dancing flames of candles, as well as long tracking shots by the camera create an incessant play of lights and shadows.
