Summer Children

A young man brings along some friends to help sail his father’s yacht to Catalina Island where other adventures develop.

“Summer Children” was filmed in and around Los Angeles, Bel-Air, at the Gardena Raceway, the Wilmington Harbor, on Catalina Island and on the 130 foot sailing schooner, the ‘Mayflower.’ These were locations of idyllic fun…the California Summer Happenings.

The story brings out what young people felt about life and relationships in the year 1965. An ensemble cast of breakthrough young actors of the time were the players in this black and white European style film that brings the audience into intimate contact with the emotions of the characters. The group set out to have a good time exploring Catalina Island throwing caution to the wind. Yet they meet with consequences that are an awakening in the night.

The idea for “Summer Children” was hatched to get paste the genre of just being another beach party movie so that we could explore the realities of life. The values of those transformational times have shaped us in so many ways. Days of splendor, days of freedom, the final days before we made the leap into adulthood that we treasure locked in a capsule of time. These became the endless summer of our innocence, our salad days, as we have since come to know them.

It’s never too late to be one of the “Summer Children”.
