BOTCHED...what could have been (and should have been) a mix of Scorsese/Lee/Fincher turned out to be a dull, poorly edited mess with virtually every actor miscast

This film would have been one of Lee's best if it wasn't for the totally wrong and ill-formed characterisation of Brody's character. It's as if Lee doesn't understand that there is a difference between what has become Punk now, and what it was 1977. Because the Sex Pistols had even released God Save The Queen at the outset of this film. However, otherwise really effective. Besides the talking dog.

Summer of sam is one of Lee's most underrated films. It's also one of his best. In fact, his whole filmmography is underrated. It's just like the man itself.

Spike Lee at his darkest, and in my opinion his best. All of his trademark themes and techniques are beautifully put to use in Summer of Sam. It is a near perfect film with the exception of the scenes that include a talking dog. Glad to see it on here, now get He Got Game up as well.
